Horses have been a part of DeeDee Golberg's life since she was placed on the back of her uncle's 18 hand black Percheron when she was just three.
Rescuing animals has been a lifelong passion of DeeDee's... starting with baby birds that fell out of the nest.
DeeDee completed her degree in Education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Her long and successful career in teaching is an invaluable asset to her role as an instructor for Spirit Horse.
Since 1994, DeeDee has been a dedicated student of Natural Horsemanship, concentrating on Equine Behavior, Horsenality*, groundwork and wild/problem equines.
DeeDee's favorite roles at Spirit Horse are acting as spokesperson for the rescue, the mental and emotional rehabilitation of equines and teaching lessons.
*Horsenality is a trademark of Parelli Natural Horsemanship
Anna Baines has been on the Spirit Horse board of directors since the organization was founded in 2008. She is currently attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she will receive her bachelor's degree in Zoology and Psychology in May 2012. She plans to attend veterinary school in the near future.
Anna is passionate about both the physical and mental aspects of horse rescue. She has taken many animal behavior courses and is also a student of Natural Horsemanship. At the UW, Anna works in both a research lab and in the large animal hospital.
Watching fearful horses learn to trust humans and become confident, responsive and happy animals is Anna's favorite aspect of her work with the rescue.
Susan Peterson has been a lifelong lover of horses. After moving to Wisconsin in 1999, she worked for five years at a boarding stable, doing chores in exchange for dressage lessons.
In 2005 Susan became a Certified Equine Massage Therapist. She first learned about Spirit Horse Equine Rescue in 2008. She met DeeDee at a fundraiser and offered her services as a donation to the rescued horses. Shortly thereafter, Susan was asked to join the Board of Directors.
Susan considers serving on the board and helping to rehabilitate these incredible animals to be the most rewarding work she has ever done.
Jeannie Welsh grew up with horses, participating in 4-H and shows.
Jeannie believes in Natural Horsemanship and practiced the principles even before being introduced to the well-known clinicians we see today. She has attended numerous clinics and events to expand her knowledge.
Since moving to Kentucky, Jeannie has remained involved with Spirit Horse. Working at an equine hospital allowed her to experience another aspect of the equine world. She brings that wealth of information and resources to the board.
Jeannie continues to promote Spirit Horse and its mission by engaging people with updates via email and Facebook. When she is back in Wisconsin, Jeannie participates in rescue activities.
Denise Graves has always had a passion for taking care of animals. She now shares her life with horses, dogs and cats. She has been a foster for Spirit Horse as well.
As a veterinary assistant for a small animal veterinary clinic, Denise has worked with a great deal of animal health issues. She brings that wealth of knowledge to the Spirit Horse Board. She is a big proponent of Natural Horsemanship and strongly against equine slaughter.
Denise enjoys all aspects of rescue work, but seeing the equines make progress mentally, emotionally and physically gives her the greatest satisfaction.
